How can I rid my new apartment of that weird smell?

I’m moving in today and there’s a weird ‘rotten’ or ‘rancid’ smell in my new apartment — just in one of the rooms (kitchen/living room with hardwood floors…all 1 room). I’ve opened up all of the windows, but the stench remains stubborn. Help!

I’ve always notived that dishes and mugs and plates are weird
and have an unpleasant taste. os tehre a special soap that wont do that?

OMG when I was my husbands clothes the water turns black?

Is there something I can put in the wash to help get them cleaner? he is in the paint and body business and he is always covered in dirt and oil and grease and paint and bondo and anything else you can imagine….after I wash them they still tend to smell….could I use Pine Sol? or something else?

How can I get this funny smell out of my kitchen cabinets?

I recently moved into an apartment and the cabinets smell bad, it even makes the glasses smell funny, I tried cleaning them out with lysol but now it smells worse. My landlord said they were recently painted and maybe that is why they smell but didn’t recommend any solutions, anyone have any ideas on how to get that awful smell out.
